Hi everyone,

I have heard from several students who are concerned about being able to schedule patients during the first few weeks of clinic, particularly because some patients on your lists have CDCP coverage that is not due for renewal until later in September.

Before I get into the CDCP details, I also want to say how impressed I am with how quickly you have all gotten started with organizing your patient lists and reaching out to patients. I know there is a lot to sort through at the beginning of the year, and it is clear that many of you have already put a great deal of time and effort into reviewing your lists and making contact with your patients. Thank you for being so proactive.

Please keep in mind that care can be started before a patient’s CDCP renewal date. The College does not submit CDCP claims for our patients until their final completion appointment. This means you can begin care before the renewal date, provided the patient’s care is completed no earlier than the day after their CDCP coverage has renewed.

When contacting these patients, please be sure to ask:

• Whether they have completed their annual CDCP renewal
• Whether they are aware of any changes to their coverage for the upcoming benefit year

I was informed today that the current renewal/processing time is approximately 2 weeks. If a patient has not yet renewed their coverage, please encourage them to do so as soon as possible to help prevent delays in completing their care.

Hopefully this provides you with a little more flexibility when scheduling patients for the first few weeks of clinic. Please reach out if you have any questions or encounter a situation you are unsure about.
