Dear Class of 2029, 

Welcome to RSTD2532 - Fixed Prosthodontics 1.

I’m truly excited to begin this academic year with you. I’ve missed working with you over the break and hope you all had a restful, energizing vacation.

This course officially begins on Friday, August 28^th at 1pm,

Fixed Prosthodontics is a rigorous and rewarding course—one that will challenge and strengthen your clinical and critical thinking skills. We’ll be learning a great deal together through lectures, labs, and hands-on practice. Fortunately, you won’t be going through it alone. We have an amazing team of instructors who are here to support you every step of the way. If you have any difficulties, please don’t hesitate to reach out. As many of you already know, my door is always open—feel free to connect with me anytime.

Please, read carefully - Important Info for the First Lab (Aug 28^th at 1pm):

1 – Location: Brass Lab at 1pm. Be there at least 10 min early.

2 – Review: Please revisit content from:

• DENT1202 (Early Clinical Experience Course).
• RSTD1500 (Dental Materials Course). 
• This will be essential for your upcoming labs on Alginate Impression, cast pouring and trimming

3 – Pre-Lab Preparation:

• Watch the videos and check the lecture on UMLearn under the RSTD2532 course
• Read Chapter 1 of Smith’s Fixed Prosthodontics 1 / RSTD2532 Lab manual. This manual is mandatory and must be brought to every session.

4 – Bring the following materials/instruments:

• Mechanical jaws, dentoforms and face masks
• Fixed Prosthodontics Kit and Operative Dentistry Kit
• Lab Bur block
• Metal trays, bowls and spatula for alginate and gypsum
• Handpiece and Dremel
• Lab manual (from Bookstore)
• Any other required items for impressions and model trimming

5 – Check the Course Outline and Schedule on UMLearn.

7 – Seating Plan for the lab is attached—please check your assigned station.

• Set up your station according to the seating plan
• Quick review of your student prosthodontic kit
• Hands-on practice: Alginate impression, cast pouring, trimming, and duplicating casts
