Reminder, please join Dr. Lucy Fowler from the Faculty of Education virtually TODAY on October 19, 2023 - 12 - 1 pm as part of the Indigenous Scholars Speaker Series.

***Shared on behalf of Dr. Cary Miller, Vice-President (Indigenous)***

The Office of the Vice-President Indigenous hosts a speaker series featuring Indigenous scholars at the University of Manitoba.  These talks highlight the research and expertise of Indigenous scholars, while providing new opportunities for students, staff and faculty to learn about Indigenous perspectives and knowledges.

On October 19th we will be highlighting Dr. Lucy Fowler who will be doing a talk titled “Situating my Scholarship:  Tensions and Possibilities in Metis Academic and Community Work”.

Dr. Lucy Fowler shared that as a Métis educator, academic, and community organizer, her work is centered on her people. Research and scholarship situated in community has unique benefits and challenges that are not possible in work that is separate from community members. In this talk, Dr. Fowler will share some of her own academic journey, including the co-creation of Métis specific academic work alongside other Métis scholars, on-going research consultations with Métis peoples, and what she sees as wise practices for community-engaged scholarship.
