Dear MAHN Students,
I am forwarding an email from Anny Chen, the Community Engaged Learning Lead, regarding the PACA workshop, please also see the attached documents.
Hi MAHN students,
Thank you again for attending our Poverty Awareness practice workshop! We hope that your time spent with us has helped deepen your understanding of the challenges that people face when living
in poverty, and how you can better provide trauma-informed care as a dietitian and advocate for change as a professional and community member.
EVALUATION FORM
If you haven’t yet, please complete
the workshop evaluation form by this week. There are six more students who need to complete the form! This is the last required component for your attendance.
The survey has an opportunity to sign up to be on our newsletter, where we’ll share future opportunities for community engagement and training in poverty awareness and EIA.
SUPPORT CIRCLE
If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, we encourage you to apply
to be a volunteer advocate through our PACA Support Circle. The program runs Wednesday evenings from 6-9pm starting October 8. This is an important opportunity gain knowledge, skills, and experience in advocacy for low-income communities.
ADVOCACY OPPORTUNITIES
There are two time-sensitive advocacy points to take action on!
Please email the
Mayor and City Council to express your concern about the increased policing of encampments and bus riders:
RESOURCES
We’ve attached our ‘What We Can Do’ document that shares individual, community, and structural actions you can take, as well as some of our favourite resources. Please take some time to review!
In particular, I wanted to highlight:
We’ve also attached two resource presentations on EIA and NIHB benefits. Remember that it is important to go to source material to get the most up-to-date information!
All the best,
Anny
