Dear MAHN students,

Please see the email below as there may be some fundings that you are eligible to apply for although MAHN students may not be eligible for many of these awards because the MAHN program is course-based, not thesis-based. Please note that students are responsible for searching out and verifying they are eligible for funding opportunities including meeting eligibility and application deadlines.

Best,

Please apply for the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF) through your home department each year (UM department/faculty of application), not Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies or the Awards office.

Please contact the UM home department (of application) directly for their UMGF application process and deadline.

*Note those applying for September 2026 (Fall 2026 intake) should contact the home department of application closer to January 2026, when the UMGF will be accepting applications.

UMGF information including eligibility can be found below:

We encourage students to apply for all sources of funding at every competition they are eligible for to assist with their graduate program, travel and living expenses.

The onus is on the applicant to seek out funding opportunities and verify on their end that they meet award eligibility including program requirements, minimum GPA and ensuring all documentation/material, and references are submitted prior to the application deadline.

Current funding opportunities are emailed out every Wednesday to students by Grad Communications which are viewable online by scrolling down to “Upcoming Award Deadlines” section near the bottom of this webpage: https://umanitoba.ca/graduate-studies/funding-awards-and-financial-aid

You may wish to visit departmental specific awards for the home departments of application found under “Student Experience” on the home page (contact information can be found at the bottom of each web page).

Please use the search engine function (magnifier icon) found on each UM page to search key words such as “funding”, “external funding” etc. Contact information is found by scrolling to the bottom of each webpage.

Funding Sources (not an exhaustive list):

Funding and scholarships can come from several different sources – faculty of graduate studies, departmental, assistantships, external including governmental, provincial, and national.  Investigating funding can be time consuming because there are so many different places it can come from.  See the below suggestions and links to help you get started:
