Dear MAHN Students,

This is another April event.

What's the big IDEA? An Exploration of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) in Nutrition Research and Practice
Network: Diabetes, Obesity & Cardiovascular
Date: April 9, 2024
Time:  11:00 AM Central Time

Historically, the constructs of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA) have not been sufficiently considered or included throughout the research process in nutrition research and practice, despite recent attempts to describe under-reported groups. Consequently, nutrition assessment benchmarks and knowledge translation tools may not accurately or adequately reflect diversity in the Canadian population, or produce meaningful dietary guidance, respectively. The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the Population Health Nutrition Research and Practice Framework and to explore the current application of IDEA within this framework. The presenters conclude with recommendations to incorporate the constructs of IDEA along the continuum of future nutrition research and dietetic practice.

Speaker(s): Maria Baranowski, MSc, RD; Nikki Webb, PhD(c), MSc, RD.

The University of Manitoba campuses are located on original lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation.  We respect the Treaties that were made on these territories, we acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and we dedicate ourselves to move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.
