Dear MAHN Students,

Dr. Myrie and I have been successful in applying for and securing endowment funds to support some of the costs of mileage for your rural travel. If you drove to a rural placement (defined as a rural designated placement outside of the Winnipeg perimeter) and you have not been fully reimbursed for mileage through other means you are eligible to submit a claim for reimbursement. All students that have mileage expenses that have not been reimbursed through other means will receive a subsidy from the endowment fund up to a maximum of $400. We recognize that this may not cover all mileage or other expenses during rural placement. If you have remaining travel expenses after this reimbursement you may consider applying for a Stewart Pugh travel award. You are eligible for this award even if the travel is already completed.

Eligibility and directions for the MAHN travel subsidy:

  1. The claim is specifically for travel to a placement outside of the Winnipeg perimeter for a rural designated placement (contact MAHN.info@umanitoba.ca if you are not certain whether your placement was a rural designated placement).
  2. You must not have received reimbursement from other sources for the mileage claimed.
  3. Travel can only be claimed once. If two students traveled together and shared costs you must not claim the same/duplicate mileage, but you can split the mileage between two claims, one for each student.
  4. Students shall receive a maximum of $400 in total (not per rural placement).
  5. To be considered for this subsidy, you must fill out the attached form and submit it to MAHN.info@umanitoba.ca by end of day Tuesday July 16.  We will not be issuing reminders, and we will not accept claims submitted to any other e-mail address.
  6. Mileage rate is $0.50 per kilometer. Mileage is calculated from your home address to the placement location.
  7. Your submitted form must include mileage expenses only.

Please review the information below to help you fill out the form:

Section A:

  • Check student box.
  • Include your UManitoba e-mail address.

Section B:

  • If you completed multiple drives to and from the same location list the date of the first drive and last drive under dates.
  • Under the purpose of claim: Indicate MAHN Rural Placement. If you had multiple drives in this section also indicate that this claim is for X amount of drives back and forth from X location for X number of days in the placement.
  • Are these all the expenses:  Check no (indicate this is only for mileage).
  • Type of trip: check fieldwork
  • Summary of expenses: List the dates travelled and the expense description (Mileage x mileage rate)

If you have questions about filling out the form, please contact MAHN.info@umanitoba.ca. Katrina and I will not respond to e-mail sent to our personal e-mail. We will submit the forms for reimbursement on July 17.

Thank you,

Jessica
