Hi John,

Thank you for pulling this together on our behalf.

The Atlantic Human Rights Centre can endorse or, alternatively, I can endorse individually as Acting Director, whichever is most appropriate.

All the best,

Shannonbrooke

Thanks Kyle for the quick and positive response.

There isn’t much we can individually do in the circumstances – commensurate with the magnitude of what is happening.  But we can speak out – and together is better than alone!

Thanks!

John

Dear all CAHRI Members,

In this extraordinary moment – when the global rules-based international order is shaken to its core, human rights utterly disregarded, and nuclear war threatened by a Permanent Member of the UN Security Council, I take the liberty to address you hoping for solidarity in issuing the attached joint statement.

We/HRREC-uOttawa believe that the moral and legal basis for our international work is threatened by the actions of Putin/Russia and we cannot sensibly sit silently watching.

I note other important institutions have issued statements.

I believe CAHRI should, too.

I understand some CAHRI Members have policies against issuing any statements or endorsing any.  That can be respected by indicating (by an asterisk) those members that wish to include their names; it is also possible to indicate an individual’s name and affiliation (as in X, Professor and Director of Y).  It would, of course, be preferable simply to issue the statement for the group as a whole.

Given the speed of developments, it would be preferable to issue the statement by close of business on Monday, 28 February (5pm ET).  We could then post it on our websites and also share it with media or others as we deem appropriate.

Thank you for your consideration and response.

I am available for any clarification.

Sincerely,

John
