I think this is a very reasonable thing to do.

Subject: FOLEY'S AND PACU

Good morning everyone,

Priya, the Educator for PACU, has asked me to share with staff that if a patient is going to PACU intubated and will remain intubated for longer than 1 hour once they arrive, the patient needs a foley before leaving the operating room.  We might not always know the length of the intubation post-op so if you’re in doubt, please ask the anesthesiologist for their input so the appropriate plan can be formed.

Dr. Tenenbein, can you please communicate this to your colleagues so we are all travelling down the same pathway?

Thanks everyone!

Karen
