Hi all,

Further to this issue.  To ensure people using PubMed (and wanting to use MyNCBI) can still see the Get it @ UML icon I recommend they use an unproxied version of the URL. Here’s a link to share if you are asked:  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?otool=icaumlib  Users will be asked to authenticate more frequently but they’ll still be able to access and use MyNCBI.

Please note that going to http://pubmed.gov/ will NOT show the Get it @ UML icon.

Hope this helps,
Carol

Subject: [Lib-virtual-ref] FW: MyNCBI (PubMed): login issues

Hi all,

Realizing that there may be VR users asking questions about this (and non-health PubMed users) – PubMed’s service MyNCBI is currently not working within our proxy.

So if you have a patron who is having trouble logging in to MyNCBI to retrieve/save searches, they’ll have to use non-proxied access to PubMed to do this for the time being.

Wade and Wei have confirmed it’s not something we can fix on our end, and may be like this for a while.

See below for further details and pictures of the issue,

Janet

Subject: MyNCBI (PubMed): login issues

Hi Wade and Wei,

A number of us have noted that we’re having difficult accessing MyNCBI, which is a component of PubMed:

Lori and Carol (copied) have provided some feedback to this effect (I’ve attached the email). The problems persist (I’ve just re-tested as of 10 minutes ago).

Specifically, the “Sign in to NCBI” box located on the left-hand side does not appear to accept credentials when entered, and puts the user into a loop of cascading windows within that window. I believe that the problem may be linked to our proxy. As Carol notes, when accessing MyNCBI from the un-proxied version of PubMed, everything works as it should (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/).

We have tested this on a WRHA computer, our “off-campus” computer, and on several UofM computers with different OS’s and browsers, all with the same result. We rely on MyNCBI fairly heavily, so I suspect that we may start hearing from our users fairly soon about this issue. Can you help?

Thanks,

Sherri
