Safety supports on Bannatyne Campus and at HSC

At the University of Manitoba, safety is our first priority for all our faculty, staff and students and UM Security Services has implemented a number of additional safety protocols in addition to our existing  Safe Walk and Safe Ride programs working in collaboration with Shared Health and Health Sciences Centre.

Shared Health held consultations with its staff  and learners and  has launched a number of initiatives to address safety concerns for staff, learners, patients and visitors. These have  included on-site police presence, decreased access points and increased AI weapon detectors. As well, Shared Health  recently introduced a new safety app and is continuing to work with Gord Perrier, director of UM Security on shared initiatives.

This free mobile app, Shared Health Safe  is available for both iOS and Android phones,  and is available to all Shared Health staff effective immediately. Users of the app will receive all HSC Hold and Secure notifications directly to their phone. The app includes a direct contact to HSC Security which allows the ability to request a HSC Safe Walk/Ride, and a personal alarm, among other features.

Shared Health has also increased security patrols in the tunnels/campus and improved panic alarm signage in the tunnels including a
map indicating the location of panic alarms in the tunnel system.

HSC Safety website.
