Hi everyone!

We hope you had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to the year ahead!

Ahmed and I are excited to invite you to the upcoming Interest Group Information Nights:

• Academic Interest Groups: Monday, August 31, from 5:00–6:30 p.m.
• Community (non-academic) Interest Groups: Tuesday, September 1, from 5:00–6:30 p.m.
• Location: Joe Doupe Concourse, second floor of the BMS

We strongly encourage you to attend! Med 2 Interest Group executives will be available to showcase their groups, discuss past events and future plans, and answer any questions you may have.

Joining an Interest Group is a great way to meet people, explore your academic and community interests, develop leadership skills, and become more involved in the medical school community. Your involvement and leadership experiences may also be included in your CaRMS application.

Interest Group Applications:

Applications will be submitted through the MMSA website, where you can also find descriptions of all the available Interest Groups.

Each Interest Group will have the following positions available:

• Two M1 representatives: These are two-year positions. Students selected as M1 representatives will transition into executive roles during Med 2.
• Four council members: These are one-year positions, and they are open to all 4 years of medical students.

There will be one application for both M1 representative and council member positions. If you apply to more than one Interest Group, you will be asked to rank your preferred groups. Med 1 students may also rank whether they prefer an M1 representative or council member position. You may only hold a position on one academic group and one community group, a maximum of two positions in total. 

Applications will:

• Open on September 1 at 8:00 p.m.
• Close on September 8 at 8:00 p.m.

Once applications close, the Med 2 executives will receive coded (anonymous) applications and rank the applicants for their groups. The matching process will work similarly to the CaRMS process by considering both applicant and Interest Group preferences.

Ahmed and I will notify applicants of the results as soon as possible after the selection process is complete.
