Fatigue Risk Management
Fatigue is a risk in medical education that impacts clinical training, patient care, and workplace health and safety. Managing fatigue and associated risks is a shared responsibility for all those who have a role in medical education.  In this workshop, we will provide tools and strategies for educators to assist them in identifying fatigue and managing risk.

Learning Objectives:
After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Discuss Fatigue and its risk to the health system
• Describe an approach to mitigate the effects of fatigue (Fatigue Risk Management)
• Implement strategies to address fatigue in the learning environment.

Narrative Medicine Series with Kyle Mendonça
Are you curious about Narrative Medicine but not sure what it’s all about? This interactive workshop offers an introduction to Narrative Medicine principles through collaborative and experiential learning. No prior experience in Narrative Medicine is required – all are welcome!    

Narrative Medicine 101: An Experiential Introduction
Narrative Medicine lies at the intersection of medicine and the humanities. It develops narrative competence: “the capacity to skillfully receive the accounts persons give of themselves–to recognize, absorb, interpret, and be moved to action by the stories of others” (Principles and Practices of Narrative Medicine, Charon et al). In this workshop we will explore the core features of Narrative Medicine: close reading and prompted creative writing. We will reflect on how narrative medicine can promote empathy, strengthen communication, and deepen our sense of meaning in our clinical work.

The Clinical Learner in Difficulty: Practical Strategies for the Clinical Preceptor (Faculty and Program Directors)
Clinical teachers often work with learners whom they find challenging or “difficult”. However, we all view learners’ problems differently, and whether we label a learner as a “problem” depends on many factors. This workshop provides practical strategies for recognizing, diagnosing, and working with learners with problems.  

Learning Objectives:  
By the end of the session, the participant will be able to  

• apply a framework to diagnose a problem learner,  
• identify practical strategies for working with a problem learner, and  
• describe how to manage reactions to difficult feedback.
