Dear colleagues,

To mark Brain Awareness Week 2016, the MNN will be hosting Canada Excellence Research Chair Dr. Oliver Ernst from the University of Toronto on March 14 and 15.  Dr. Ernst is a world leader in the study of the structure and function of G protein-coupled receptors, particularly rhodopsin.  Additional information about his research and publications can be found on his website:  http://biochemistry.utoronto.ca/person/oliver-p-ernst/.

Details of his scientific and public talks will be sent out in the next couple of weeks, but at present, we would like to finalize his itinerary by scheduling meetings with MNN researchers.  To broaden the scope of his visit, we have divided up his time as follows:

Monday, March 14 – Fort Garry campus.  Dr. Ernst will spend the entire day at Fort Garry and will be available for meetings from approximately 10 am – 4 pm.  Meetings will be 30-45 minutes and MNN members will be given priority.  We are also looking for someone (student or postdoc) who would be willing to escort Dr. Ernst to his different meetings around the campus that day.  This is a great opportunity to interact with a world-renowned researcher, and we will also give you a $25 Starbucks gift card!  Please contact us at the addresses below if you are interested.

Tuesday, March 15 – Bannatyne campus.  MNN members at Bannatyne (and St. B) are welcome to request meetings with Dr. Ernst at the Bannatyne campus from 9 am – 4 pm.

Please respond ASAP to Kae Normandeau (Kaeleen.Normandeau@umanitoba.ca or outreach@manitobaneuroscience.ca ) to indicate that you are interested in meeting with Dr. Ernst.  Thank you for your continued support of the MNN.

Best wishes, Sari

Sari S. Hannila, PhD

MNN Director of Outreach
