Message from
Mark Torchia, Vice-Provost (Learning, Analytics, and Academic Infrastructure)
July 15, 2026
Dear Deans, Directors, Department Heads, and University Librarian:
I am excited to announce the
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)
Travel Fund,
an initiative that provides faculty, instructors, and librarians who are new to SoTL with opportunities to develop their skills and share knowledge while engaging with the global SoTL community.
The
SoTL Travel Fund offers funding (up to $2,500) for up to five individuals to
attend the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL) 2026 annual conference in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, hosted by the University of Saskatchewan and ISSOTL,
to gain SoTL research skills and build connections with SoTL scholars across Canada.
Through this commitment we strive to ensure that undergraduate and graduate students receive an outstanding educational experience, and that we advance the strategic
priorities of empowering learners through innovative and quality teaching and creating knowledge that matters through excellence in research and scholarly work.
The application deadline is August 21, 2026.
The application form and detailed guidelines can be found on the
Provost intranet site.
Please distribute this opportunity to all scholars within your unit.
I hope that you will encourage, support, and identify potential applicants within your respective units.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Dr. Mark Torchia, Vice-Provost (Learning, Analytics, and Academic Infrastructure) at
mark.torchia@umanitoba.ca.
