Subject: Usher Requirementsfor Fort Garry Spring Convocation
This message was sent to Deans, Associate Deans, Department Heads, executive assistants, and financial managers.
To all Deans and Directors:
I am writing regarding participation by staff as ushers at the Spring Convocation ceremonies as follows:
ˇ
Ceremony 1: Tuesday June 6th at 9:30 AM
ˇ
Ceremony 2: Tuesday June 6th at 3:00 PM
ˇ
Ceremony 3: Wednesday June 7th at 9:30 AM
ˇ
Ceremony 4: Wednesday June 7th at 3:00 PM
ˇ
Ceremony 5: Thursday June 8th at 9:30 AM
ˇ
Ceremony 6: Thursday June 8th at 3:00 PM
ˇ
Ceremony 7: Friday June 9th at 9:30 AM
It is important to the success of the event, and the comfort and security of those who attend, that we are staffed with an appropriate complement of ushers. A total of 25 ushers are needed for
each ceremony held at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.
All academic units with graduating students are to contribute staff to serve as ushers at Convocation. The number of staff needed from each area has been determined in proportion to the graduates at each ceremony.
Attached is a document with the number of staff needed from each area.
What does an usher do?
The responsibility of Convocation Ushers is to help provide a variety of services to the graduates and their guests, before, during and after each ceremony. Information on ushering duties can be found at: Convocation
Ushers. More detailed information will be distributed to ushers as the ceremony dates approach and at an on-site training session prior to each ceremony.
Who can be an usher?
All UM staff members are eligible to serve as ushers. Working as an usher is expected to be in place of normal duties.
What is the time commitment?
Shifts begin 90 minutes before each ceremony and the time commitment is approximately 4 – 5 hours for
each ceremony. Arrangements may be made to accommodate staff who are not able to attend for the full shift length.
How do staff sign up?
Staff must complete and submit this
online form to sign up as an usher at convocation.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
