Subject: Open Science in Canada - Invitation to Participate

Caution! This message was sent from outside the University of Manitoba.

Dear colleagues of the Department of Plant Science,

My name is Nicolás Alessandroni, and I am an FRQSC Postdoctoral Fellow at Concordia University. Under the supervision of Dr. Krista Byers-Heinlein, I am spearheading research on the adoption of open science among scholars across Canada, spanning all disciplines and career stages—from undergraduate students to faculty members. Open science is rapidly becoming a top priority in Canada, mirroring global trends, and resulting in increasing mandates and policies from funding agencies and institutions. To our knowledge, this is the first comprehensive nationwide study on open science knowledge and practices.

We have developed a survey specifically for this study, and we would greatly appreciate your help in distributing the message attached below to faculty members, researchers, and students in your department. Your support in sharing this survey will be invaluable in gathering diverse perspectives and experiences from across the academic spectrum.

Thank you for your assistance and participation in advancing our understanding of open science in Canada. Should you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me at nicolas.alessandroni@concordia.ca.

Best regards,

Dear colleague,

We would like to invite you to participate in a study investigating people’s perceptions, attitudes, practices, and knowledge about open science led by Dr. Krista Byers-Heinlein and Dr. Nicolás Alessandroni (Concordia University, Canada). Participating in the study involves completing an online survey that takes approximately 30 minutes. The survey is anonymous and, should you choose to take part in the study, you will not be asked to provide any personal information. As compensation for completing the survey, you will be given the chance to enter a draw to win a gift card of your choice.

To our knowledge, this is the first comprehensive nationwide study on open science knowledge and practices in Canada. Your contribution will help us uncover the unique challenges and opportunities that open science presents within our academic and scientific community.

If you would like to participate in the study, please follow the link below to the survey
