Subject: RE: Weekend waterer- Buller Greenhouse
Hi, Cathy. Here’s a more cohesive summary of the position(s):
Position: This is an unposted
student position.
Hours: 4 hours every Sat.
or Sun. (or both days every other weekend, alternating with another waterer),
Wages: My best guess is a
starting wage of $16.89+ (this is for a Tech. 1, Step 1). The exact classification and wage will be determined by the Faculty of Science HR people and will depend on your experience and previous employment/seniority at the UofM or AESES union.
Tasks: watering and pest control
(using water, insecticidal soap, insect predators) at Buller GH and two daily inspections at CTC (Crop Technology Centre) which is our research greenhouse. The inspection is done via an app or a physical checksheet, and you would receive training in the skills
you need. Experience with a variety of plants and pests is an asset!
Requirements:
•
Experience with growing/maintaining plants is required.
•
Summer availability is important. We can accommodate a couple of weekends off (everyone needs a holiday!), but need whoever we hire to be committed and responsible for weekends,
some STATs and occasional holiday coverage during summer (usually a day here and there if you are available during the week).
•
Knowledge of pests and how to deal with them is an asset.
•
Experience with greenhouse systems and maintenance of old buildings is an asset, but not required.
Please let me know if you’re interested. If you think this might be a good fit for you, but want to know more, we could
meet in-person or on Zoom. Feel free to pass along my contact info if you know anyone else who might be qualified and available.
My full contact info is below. Thanks, Cathy.
