Good morning to all,

The Fire Department is conducting inspections around campus and they recently went through the Seed Processing building.

According to the EHSO’s safety Coordinator, there is a re-occurring issue in the building with the door to the electrical room being left open. Due to the high dust levels in the building, this poses a fire and explosion hazard when dust accumulates on the transformer.

A number of actions are needed immediately:

-             Remove combustible material from electrical room.

-             Remove accumulated dust found during inspection.

-             Correct all defects that interfere with the operation of closures in fire separation(s).

-             Fire door to electrical room should never be left open. We will ask Physical Plant to install self closure devise to ensure door is closed when not in use.

I am asking that everyone takes their responsibility and make sure that such incident does not occur again in the future. This is about your own and everyone else’s safety.
