The annual EU Visitor's programme (EUVP) is now accepting applications

The European Union Visitors Programme (EUVP) enables young leaders from countries outside the European Union to obtain first-hand impressions of the European Union's policies, Institutions and achievements and to increase mutual understanding between professionals from non-EU countries and their EU counterparts. Travel and hotel costs for the round trip are covered by the EUVP. As well, a per diem is paid to each participant to cover meals and incidentals.

The EUVP is jointly supported and administered by the European Parliament and the European Commission. It has been in operation since 1974. A EUVP visit consists of an individual five- to eight-day programme of meetings with EU officials at the EU institutions in Brussels, Strasbourg and /or Luxembourg. All programmes are coordinated and arranged by the EUVP Secretariat in Brussels. Each visit is custom tailored to the wishes of each participant and takes place during the following year.

For details of this programme and application rules, please visit : http://www.delcan.ec.europa.eu/en/press_and_information/announcements/2009/EUVP/

Deadline for applications is March 31.

The Manitoba Health Research Poster Competition

The Manitoba Health Research Poster Competition (June 2) for graduate students is a great venue for students from across the health spectrum (Animal Science to zoologists... as broad as the CIHR mandate) to gain practice in presentation, receive feedback from experienced judges (awards of excellence are also available), and network with students from across the breadth of health research, both here and nationally.  The opportunities for networking are broad, from social events (June 3) such as the dinner cruise and tours... the broad-spectrum symposium on Molecular Imaging (June 4) and meeting with CIHR leadership (June 3).

And it¹s all free for participants, so I'd encourage you consider this opportunityand to pass the message along to your colleagues.  For more information please see:

Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs Annual Conference:
Imagination in an Age of Instant Information

Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs Annual Conference

October 22-24, 2009
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort Walt Disney World® Lake Buena Vista, FL
Hosted by Master of Liberal Studies Program, Rollins College

Special Keynote Speaker: Billy Collins

What role does imagination play in an age when information on almost every topic is available instantaneously? Why do students need to learn to analyze a poem, a novel, or a piece of art when the works of scholars and specislists are so easily accessible? Can instant information actually discourage students from using imagination and creativity to address important issues? How can we help students understand that the world's great ideas, discoveries, and artistic innovations came from men and women with imagination, a passion for knowledge, and a need for self-expression? Keynote speaker Billy Collins, US poet laureate 2001-2003, will stimulate the discussion as we explore how we keep imagination and creativity at the center of our Graduate Liberal Studies programs. He will speak at the Friday night banquet at the Living Seas Pavilion, Epcot.
