Good Morning All:

I am forwarding this email to you on behalf of Annemieke Farenhorst, Acting Head, Department of Soil Science:

Learn about one of our projects at:

http://www.umanitoba.ca/afs/centralamerica_cbpm/about_en.htm

I wanted to inform you that there is a new official UMSU club called the UofM Rangelands Club for undergraduate and graduate students.  I was wondering if you would be able to share the information with the other professors and Agriculture department heads so that they aware of what's going on and the students that are participating.

The club is for students interested in learning about as well as making industry contacts in the area of rangelands and ecosystem

management and all related subjects.  The students will be studying and preparing for (with help from industry professionals and

researchers) written exams, group problem solving activities, and student paper presentations at the Society for Range

Management (SRM) annual conference coming up in February in Denver, Colorado.  The University of Alberta and University of

Saskatchewan send a student team to this conference annually and this will be the first time the University of Manitoba will be

represented.  The students will be putting in a lot of hard work and time to prepare for the conference and student competitions.

So far, we have 7 undergraduate students and 2 graduate students that are interested in studying and learning about

range management and they come from very different backgrounds:

Animal Systems

Ag Business

Agronomy

Agroecology

This year's SRM annual meeting is being held in conjunction with the Weed Science Society of America conference, and the theme is invasive species management.  We will be looking for any interested speakers to meet with the students to help  them prepare for the conference.  We will also be looking for some sponsors to help cover some of our costs.  We meet every Tuesday at 5:30 in the Ellis Building, room 342.  For more info contact:
