Zotero Café

This is a cafe-style session to discuss and exchange information related to the use of Zotero as your citation management tool

Open Science Series: Open Data

This workshop will introduce open data and explain it's context within the Canadian research sphere. We will cover topics such as the Open Data Movement (ODM), privacy and other issues relating to open data, the importance of citing data, as well as where to find and how to use open data in your research.

Navigating the Research Literature: Web of Science & SCOPUS

In this session, we will explore a set of bibliometric analytical tools available from the multidisciplinary search platforms and help you navigate the literature of your research topic.

EndNote Basics

This session introduces you to Endnote - a widely used citation management tool. Endnote helps you organize references and PDFs and allows you to easily create bibliographies using 1000s of predetermined styles. This session will guide you through the layout of Endnote, how to import and export references, how to share reference lists with colleagues, how to locate full-text articles, and how to create a bibliography in the style (e.g., Vancouver, APA, MLA) that you need.

Open Science Series: Open Science & the Public

Much of the Open Science movement was propelled by a collective desire to make publicly funded research available to the public, but does “open” mean “publicly accessible”? What are the best sources for public consumption of research and how should those sources differ from academic ones? What UM Libraries resources are available to help you with public communication of your research? All these topics and more will be covered in this session.

Infographics: An Introductions

This hands-on session provides an overview of infographics and tools as well as how they can be used. Participants will learn about best practices and guidelines for designing effective infographics and evaluating them. In the latter part of the session attendees will get a chance to go through the entire design process of an infographic for a particular scenario using Piktochart.

Drop-In FAQ Session: Researcher Profiles (ORCID, Scopus, ResearchGate, Publons, Google Scholar)

This session will be a hands-on exploration of the various networking and academic profile website tools. Tools such as ORCID, Scopus Author Profile, Publons, Google Scholar and ResearchGate, raise the profile of a researcher at any stage of their career and better highlight scholarly impact. We will explore some common questions that come up with these tools and we invite attendees to ask their own questions throughout the session. We suggest watching the recording of our previous Researcher Profile Management session to get an overview of the different researcher profiles available.

Introduction to Scoping Reviews

Considering a scoping review? This session explores what is involved in completing a scoping review. While similar to a systematic review, this session explores what makes a scoping review different than a systematic review and the adjustments one needs to make in the setup and searching.
