Announcements:
The UMIH is excited to support the English, Theatre, Film and Media's Warhaft Lecture Series. They will be bringing in award-winning playwright, author, and journalist, Drew Hayden Taylor on the 19th of January, 2023. More details to follow. The UMIH also looks forward to a community project in partnership with QPOC (Queer & Trans People of Color, Winnipeg) on the 21st of January, as well as, the returning of Dr. Unrau and Amal Majumder's book club on the 18th. Please lookout for more details on these events. 

The UMIH 2023 - 2024 call for Graduate Fellows, Research Affiliates, and Research Clusters will be advertised soon. The Deadline for all applications will be in April and decisions will be made by mid-June 2023. More details to follow.

The Writing Towards a Just World Cluster presents Listening: A tool in Storytelling by Janine Windolph 
Friday, January 20th, 2023 from 12 - 2 PM CT 
Hybrid workshop - in person at 307 Tier building and online via Zoom
Janine Windolph is the Director of Indigenous Arts at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. In this workshop, she will discuss the act of listening, a skillset embedded in Indigenous storytelling from a young age through dialogue and exercises. This workshop will highlight Listening with intention and compassion and focus on its importance in developing an array of writing media: documentary making, film making, statement and testimonial writing. The workshop will cover the value of listening in storytelling, approaches to, and strategies for applying to projects in the areas of writing, arts, and film. This workshop will also talk about how daily mindful listening can be folded into one's everyday life and their careers. To attend, please register here or join us in person at 307 Tier Building. Reproductive Rites: Book Launch and Abortion Outreach with Drs Dana Medoro and Neil McArthur
Hosted by Lisa Naylor (Wolseley MLA) at Nicolino's (2077 Pembina Hwy)
Thursday, Jan 26th, 2023. Reception starts at 6 PM / Panel Discussion at 7 PM 
Neil McCarthur and Dana Medoro will launch their books in solidarity with the Women's Health Clinic. This event will be MC'd by Lisa Naylor, formerly an abortion counsellor with the WHC, now the MLA for Wolseley. Small donations will be gratefully accepted for a new ultrasound machine at the WHC. Some books will be available for purchase.

The Centre for Professional and Applied Ethics Graduate Fellowship 2023 - 2024

The Centre for Professional and Applied Ethics invites applications for its Ethics Graduate Fellowship. The fellowship is open to all University of Manitoba graduate students, at any stage of their program. Applications from students in all fields are encouraged. The aim of the fellowship is to support graduate students who do research in the field of ethics, or to encourage students in other fields to consider the ethical implications of their work, to integrate ethics into their research, and to promote understanding of ethics as it relates to their areas of study. Two fellowships worth $3000 will be awarded to two successful applicants. Qualification and publication records and the significance of applicant's research will be considered. Please submit a curriculum vitae and a 500-word research proposal to the address above.
