Dear Friends of the hUManities,

Welcome back to a new term! We hope that the holidays were restful for folks.

Welcome to the 2022-23 Members of the UMIH:

The UMIH is pleased to welcome and introduce community members and friends to the 2022-23 research affiliates, research clusters, and graduate fellows.

This year, the Institute is excited to support two research clusters: the Writing towards a Just World Research Cluster coordinated by Dr. Jocelyn Thorpe (Women's and Gender Studies)

and the Food Matters Research Cluster by Dr. Jeongmin Kim (History).

The Institute will also be supporting one research affiliate this year: Dr. Melanie Dennis Unrau (SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow, Columbia University)

In addition, we are excited to welcome this year's UMIH Graduate Fellows Jessie Krahn (ETFM) and Amal Majumder (ETFM).

We are also thrilled to welcome back the two student interns: Alex Rana (ETFM) and Lydia Gork (Native Studies)

Follow us on Instagram and Facebook as we will be sharing more on the Institute's 2022-23 members and their research work.

We again welcome the community to engage with texts, podcasts, and other media created by us on the UMIH blog and YouTube channel.

We wish last year's members success in their research endeavors.

Upcoming Public Lectures:

The Writing Towards a Just World Research Cluster presents: Look See Write by Sally Ito

Tuesday, September 27th from 12 PM - 2 PM CT

Hybrid event: in-person at 307 Tier Boardroom & online via Zoom

Look, See, Write is a workshop about turning what you see into words. What happens when the things you look at become words ? A transformation. Roses are red, it's true, but in a line of verse, they can also be blue. We'll begin this workshop by deep looking and then transform those sights into words and hopefully end up with a poem!

This workshop is a hybrid event. Folks are welcome to attend in person at 307 Tier or stream via Zoom. Please use this link to register and see the attached event poster for more on Sally's work.
