Welcome back to a new term! We hope that the summer was restful. 

Welcome 2021-22 Members of the UMIH:
The UMIH is pleased to welcome and introduce community members and friends to the 2021-22 research affiliates, research clusters and graduate fellow. This year, the Institute is excited to support four research clusters: Death as Transformative Experience headed by Dr Simone Mahrenholz (Philosophy), Graphic Narrative Beyond the Gutter headed by Dr Lucas Tromly (ETFM), Power and Resistance in Latin America headed by Dr Jorge Nallim (History), and Occupy Bartleby headed by Dr Dana Medoro (ETFM).

The Institute will also be supporting three research affiliates: Dr Caitlin McIntyre (Visiting Assistant Professor, State University of New York Buffalo), Dr Melanie Dennis Unrau (SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow, Columbia University) and Dr Shoshannah Bryn Jones Square (Emergent Phenomenology Research Consortium, The Social Justice Centre).

In addition, we are excited to welcome this year's UMIH Graduate Fellow, Tasheney Francis Holness (Linguistics). Stay tuned for announcements of our Undergraduate Student Interns.

Up-coming Public Lectures: 
This fall, the UMIH will be presenting a public lecture by writer of Prison Industrial Complex Explodes, poet and educator Mercedes Eng. The Institute is also looking forward to welcoming Dr Julie Sze, professor of American Studies and founding director of the Environmental Justice project at the University of California. More details coming soon.

Mosaic, an interdisciplinary critical journal, invites you to a series of digital lectures via Zoom. The lectures will concentrate on the flow or pace of current time, especially in relation to past time. â€‹Lectures will run from October through December via Zoom. Community-Based Research 101

The Community-Based Research Training Centre at the University of Winnipeg co-supported by the CSSRP is offering a series of workshops this fall that may be of interest. Please visit this link for more details and registration. 

Getty/ACLS Postdoctoral Fellowships in the History of Art
Application Deadline October 27, 2021, 9 pm EDT. 
This fellowship supports an academic year of research by early career scholars from around the world for projects that will make substantial and original contributions to the understanding of art and its history. ACLS will award up to 10 fellowships for the 2022-23 academic year, each carrying a stipend of $60,000, plus $5,000 for research and travel during the award period. More information about the program, including eligibility requirements and how to apply, is available here.
