Upcoming Events:
The Writing Towards a Just World Cluster Presents Listening: A Tool in Storytelling by Janine Windolph
Friday, January 20th 2023, from 12 PM - 2 PM CT
This hybrid workshop will be available on Zoom and in-person at 307 Tier
We are excited for this workshop hosted by Janine Windolph (Atikamekw/Woodland Cree) who was recently appointed to the Director of Indigenous Arts at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, formally Associate Director and Acting Director. Listening is a skill that is embedded in Indigenous storytellers at a young age. Listening is often overlooked as a skill central to oral story sharing and public speaking, but listening is key to being able to learn and then embody stories before being able to pass down to others. The same is true for documentary filmmaking: the filmmaker must be able to give space to listen to what is being shared to be able to best understand the larger narrative and to allow for compassion, trust and openness. This workshop will focus on the value of listening in storytelling as well as approaches to and strategies for listening. The workshop will also explore how daily mindful listening can be folded into one's everyday life and career. To attend, register via this link. Please see the event poster attached as well.
