PSLP is a co-curricular, fully inclusive development program funded through an endowment to the UM creating the Burns Leadership Institute in 2018. The program is unique in Canada and brings together 24 student fellows from across faculties and disciplines each year, 70% from UM and 30% from other postsecondaries in the province. This will be the eighth cohort of PSLP Fellows, with a vibrant alumni contributing in their fields and communities in exciting ways. One of those changes is the removal of the Advisor Transcripts in Aurora Classic, which are replaced by Academic History reports in Argos. Hello Advisors, Thank you to those who were able to join us yesterday for the Student Academic History demo. I'm not sure what happened to the recording, but this is the best summary I can come up with (AI generated, for full transparency). Jan 27, 2026 Meeting Notes The meeting provided advisors across UMAE with a demo of the new Student Academic History in Aurora. Although the session was mistakenly not recorded or actively engaged through chat with questions and feedback about the updated tools transcribed, participants. Key Topics Discussed 1. Transcript & Registration History Updates A document titled Advisor Transcripts and Registration History Changes February 2026<https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/:b:/r/sites/um-intranet-aurora-modernizati…> was shared to outline upcoming changes. Advisors asked about: * Display of "Unofficial" watermark and whether it can be made lighter. * Whether unapplied courses, such as pending transfer credits, will appear (answer: Yes). * Ability to view transcripts in chronological vs. reverse chronological order - with the majority preferring reverse for advising convenience. There will be additional discussion around viewing order to obtain consensus. Only one op 2. System Functionality & Speed Concerns Several participants expressed worry that the new system takes 20+ seconds to generate transcripts, significantly impacting workflows for advisors who review dozens of files at a time. Good Morning Everyone, I'm very pleased to share that Jennifer Mitchell has been hired as the new First Year Advising and Communications Lead, within the Student Transitions and Success Centre! Jen has been working as an FYC academic advisor since summer of 2024, when she joined our team after holding positions in a number of UM units doing great work in support of students. Jen brings to the position her keen eye for detail and excellent organizational skills. She is highly collaborative and has shared her excitement around connecting with the larger UM community around first year initiatives and communications. Most importantly, her solid foundational knowledge around the timing, tone, and methods for communicating critical messages to first year UM students, makes her a natural fit for this position. Please be sure to include @Jennifer Mitchell<mailto:Jennifer.Mitchell@umanitoba.ca> in groups, Teams, meetings, and discussions around communicating with all UM students, but in particular first and second year students, and our Bison student-athletes. Happy Friday Advisors, Please see the important update from Heather Morris - Director, Student Advocacy and Case Management Subject: Student Advocacy update for December Hello Faculty partners, I wanted to connect with you all and share some updates from Student Advocacy: December schedule Our Student Advocates are fully booked for one-one appointments for the month of December. Barring any cancellations, we do not foresee being able to offer any more appointments to students until 2026. Please continue to refer students to us, however with the understanding that, if a one-on-one appointment is needed, the earliest that this could take place is in January. We appreciate your help in managing students' expectations, so as to minimize frustration and challenging interactions with our intake staff. Advocacy assistance As a reminder, Student Advocacy assists students in a number of ways. Our confidential intake staff triage inquiries on the basis of urgency and complexity, to determine how we can most effectively assist a student (and not every situation will necessitate a one-one appointment with a Student Advocate). For example: in some situations, students are invited to attend a Zoom webinar (developed and presented by Student Advocates) and afterwards may have the option to receive additional information/feedback via email, or an appointment. When you are referring students to our office, it can be helpful to use more general language, such as "connect with Student Advocacy for assistance" (as opposed to saying "meet with a Student Advocate"). While we would love to be able to offer a one-on-one appointment to every student, unfortunately we do not have the resources to do so. In developing our different service offerings (appointments, webinars, email feedback), our goal is to assist higher volumes of students in the most timely manner possible. Student Well-being December can be a challenging month, with the stress of final exams and the colder weather impacting students' mental health. The university winter closure creates a period of time when most supports and services are unavailable to students. We recommend that faculties and departments consider the timing for sending out correspondence that may be distressing to students. Examples include allegations of academic misconduct, decision letters outlining penalties, and denials of requests and appeals. Receiving this type of news can interfere with students' ability to study and write their final exams. If the correspondence is sent in the final weeks before the closure, there is a concern that students will not be able to receive assistance from offices on campus and may be in distress over the break (with only limited supports available off-campus), which can put some students at risk. Another situation that has been identified, is when instructors indicate in UMLearn that coursework is "under investigation" if it is being referred for a misconduct allegation. Sometimes grade comments are added in UMLearn during the break. It is important to keep in mind that during the break, students do not have access to UM services to gather information, ask questions, or seek support. If anyone has questions or feel there is an urgent matter that needs to be addressed before the break, please reach out to me directly and we can discuss options. Thank you for your support! Happy Friday Afternoon UM Advisors The Student Transitions and Success Centre is hiring a Bison+ Academic Advising Program Coordinator. As a member of the Bison Sports and the Student Transitions and Success Centre academic advising team, the Bison+ Program Coordinator uses a developmental approach to the holistic support and academic advising of Bison student-athletes. This developmental approach helps students realize their potential by helping them better understand themselves and their academic plans. The Bison+ Academic Advising Program Coordinator is a positive spokesperson for Bison Sports and Student Affairs in and outside UM, supporting the recruitment, admission, registration and orientation of student-athletes. The incumbent will spend time in both the Student Transitions and Success Centre (205 Tier) and in Bison Sports while working with student-athletes, coaches, leadership, and other administrative staff. The role is positioned within STSC, with an indirect reporting relationship with the Associate Director - Operations of Bison Sports. Applicants must be enthusiastic about Bison Sports, demonstrate Bison Pride, and feel passionate about the development of student-athletes as both students and athletes. University of Manitoba Advising Excellence Award Student Affairs is excited to announce the opening of applications for the Wendy McLean Advising Excellence Award, aimed at recognizing the outstanding achievements of academic advising staff at UM. This prestigious award highlights the dedication and innovation of advisors who play a crucial role in the academic and personal success of students. This award was set up by Wendy McLean (former First Year Centre Academic Advisor) and recognizes exceptional advising with an annual award of $500 donated to the UM Food Bank in the recipient's name. Hello everyone, We hope your Fall term is going well! We wanted to check in and share some updates about upcoming meetings and professional development opportunities for this semester. A friendly reminder Our Go2Knowledge membership has been renewed through June 2026. To encourage participation, each completed Go2Knowledge webinar or UMAE meeting attendance will enter you into a draw for a UM Bookstore or Starbucks gift card. The first draw will take place on December 8, the last day of classes for the Fall term. Here is the log in information for Go2Knowledge again if anyone needs: Link: https://www.go2knowledge.org/umanitobaca. Once there, fill out your first name, last name, email address, and password, click on the I agree to the Terms & Conditions checkbox. Then click 'register'. If you've already registered for an account, you can click on 'Already a member? Sign in' at the top. Type in your name and password and click 'sign in', You should then be able to log in and have access to all the professional development webinars on your Go2Knowledge site, track your progress, and access your certificates upon completion of the training. There are a few PD opportunities coming up in November through UMAE as well as other offices on campus. Please find a calendar of events for Fall term attached! Please connect directly with her if you have any questions. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi All, We have been hearing from students who are registered with SAS that advisors have mentioned they should have an advanced registration time. This is incorrect. Advanced registration is a very specific accommodation that is only available to a small percentage of SAS students, not available to all SAS students by default. Advanced registration is intended for students who are using SAS staff (ie: ASL interpreters, transcriptionists, academic attendants) to ensure we have more time to schedule, hire, and train staff. While there may be other circumstances to consider the accommodation, the student must discuss this with their SAS Accessibility Coordinator directly. If a student is asking about their registration date and discloses that they are an SAS student, please know that advanced registration dates have been applied to all who have the approved accommodation for it. If a student is unsure why they do not have it, please feel free to refer them back to us. Let me know if there are any questions! We anticipate that University 1 students will be primarily impacted, due to volume of U1 students registering over the last few days, but you may also see your own students who have been impacted. The RO will be the primary contact, but advisors can feel free to make changes in Banner to adjust and correct spanned course registration. Hope all are doing well! URGENT: Aurora/Banner Registration Issues

You may be receiving reports from students who are having difficulty registering in classes, and some staff are reporting difficulties using Banner. Yesterday afternoon (Tuesday July 8th), Aurora/Banner experienced a system issue that resulted in errors in registration and the system became inaccessible for a period of time. Our IST team and ORES monitored the situation last night and believed it had been resolved. Unfortunately, issues continue to persist this morning. These issues are the top priority for everyone supporting Aurora and Banner, so we hope to have a resolution as soon as possible. If you are receiving questions from students, please let them know we are experiencing a system issue and working to resolve it. As you complete webinars, we encourage you to share your insights with the UMAE by leading a facilitated discussion on what you've learned-what stood out, what was useful, and how it applies to our work. Reading to Write Program July and August 2025

Hello UM advisors, The Academic Learning Centre is offering two sessions of the Reading to Write Program in July and August 2025. This university-prep online course helps students improve their academic reading and writing skills, understand university assignment expectations, and learn to use UMLearn and other UM resources. Students learn strategies for reading complex academic texts, complete basic academic writing tasks and receive feedback on their writing from Academic Learning Centre writing tutors. Reading to Write is short, free, and online and it is best suited for incoming UM students or those who have completed fewer than 60 credits. In collaboration with our faculty partners and the Admissions office, we have worked together to create a user-friendly resource for newly admitted students as they navigate course selection, timetabling, and registration. Aurora Modernization Project Updates for June 2025

Hello everyone, We want to provide you with an important update regarding the Launch Date of the Major, Minor, Declaration Workflow being developed as part of the Aurora Modernization Project. We continue working hard to provide students with a smooth and seamless experience. Given the complexity of this customization in Self-Service 8, we need a bit more time to achieve this goal. As such, the launch date for this Workflow will be pushed out to later this fall. In the meantime, students will continue using existing functionality in Self-Service 8 (Aurora Classic) to declare a Major, Minor or Concentration online. More information to follow on upcoming consultation sessions and demo of the new Workflow. A reminder that the online Major, Minor, Concentration declarations will open for students on Monday, June 9th.
