External email notice coming Friday Dec. 17
External email notice coming Friday Dec. 17
In March 2020, the university began adding an external message notice at the top of all email messages to staff coming from outside of the University of Manitoba.
This Friday, the university will add this same warning on external emails sent to students. The warning indicates that the message did not come from a trusted email address within the university.
Caution: This message was sent from outside the University of Manitoba.
Not all external email messages are bad. The tag reminds you to pause and think before you click on any internal links or attachments in a message from an external party.
Also watch for these signs of a scammer:
* Sender address does not match the sender's name * Grammar, spelling and/or formatting mistakes * Strange or incorrect URLs * A sense of urgency in the content * A request for sensitive information * A nondescript or generic email signature * An attachment that you did not request
If you think you have received a phishing email, please report it to spam@umanitoba.camailto:spam@umanitoba.ca.
Remember: Information Security Starts with You!
