Are the coordinates longitude and latitude? Would someone actually enter these or are they coming from a GPS file?
You need to treat the coordinates as strings.
You can create these strings if you enter degrees, minutes, seconds as numbers - see the Q&A on the list about creating ID numbers recently. If the coordinates come from a GPS, just keep them as strings.

Has anyone figured out how to enter GPS coordinates in Epidata in a form which preserves the structure so that they can be exported to another program for analysis? Thanks in advance for any help,
