Subject: [Nursing-bn-students] Locker Sales
Importance: High
Hello Nursing Students,
Happy first day of classes. I hope you are all doing well. I am sending this email to provide some information about the lockers. The locker rental term ends on January 8, 2024, that is today. If you purchased a locker in fall term, please ensure you clear out your lockers by 4pm today. This is to ensure that the lockers are available for incoming students.
I also want to let you know that locker sales for the new term will begin on January 9, 2024 around 0800 am, and not before that, and you can purchase them online through the NSA website only using either your debit or credit card. Please be sure to visit our website and take advantage of this opportunity to secure a locker for this term.
The lockers cost $15 per term and are in the nursing locker room and along the hallway in the basement floor of the Helen glass building. There are limited lockers available so if you go to the website and there are no lockers in the dropdown menu that means they have all been purchased. Here is the link to the NSA website for your convenience https://umanitobansa.weebly.com/
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact this email sandh23(a)myumanitoba.ca<mailto:sandh23@myumanitoba.ca>, do not respond to this email.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to meeting you all soon!
Warm regards,
Sofreen Sandhu (she/her)

This presentation focuses on the findings and implications of a longitudinal research study that explored how the couple, when one spouse lives with dementia, achieve life together through their efforts towards mutuality. Efforts towards mutuality occur in the everyday interactions as couples aim to come to a shared understanding. Three to five joint interviews of 8 different couples living with dementia were conducted. The person living with dementia experienced varying levels of dependency. Interviews were analyzed using a thematic analysis underpinned by the assumptions of symbolic interactionism. The result of analysis of these interviews is described by a newly developed mutuality analytical framework. Difficulties in coming to a shared understanding were often shaped by the medicalization and stigmatization of dementia. This study highlights how couples living with dementia maintain individual agency within their relationship.

Concerning inequities exist across the cancer continuum such that people who are the most socially disadvantaged are significantly more likely to be diagnosed with cancers that are preventable, be diagnosed with cancers at more advanced stages, die from cancers that are typically curable, and receive inadequate cancer treatment. These outcomes are often linked to the compounding effects of stigma, discrimination, and a constellation of other barriers to accessing care at all points across the cancer continuum. For example, those experiencing poverty are significantly less likely to be seen by an oncologist after a cancer diagnosis and less likely to receive cancer treatment. Ground in the concepts of health equity and social justice, this presentation will highlight ongoing research on how inequities manifest in the cancer care sector, some of the root causes of these inequities, recommendations for integrating an equity-oriented approach into the design and delivery of cancer services.
