"The Biological Sciences Graduate Student Association is pleased to be hosting the Hanna Memorial Lecture Series, a series in name of Dr. William F. Hanna, one of the University of Manitoba's first distinguished alumni and the first PhD recipient in Western Canada.
This lecture series will take place on Feb. 16th and 17th, featuring Dr. Seung Yon (Sue) Rhee, a Senior Staff Scientist at Carnegie Institution for Science and Professor at Stanford University. Her work combines plant and computational biology to understand the molecular mechanisms behind adaptive traits to abiotic and biotic stress. Dr. Rhee has led the creation of monumental projects for the plant biology community, including The Arabidopsis Information Resource and The Plant Cell Atlas, and has been a significant contributor to other large collaborations such as the Gene Ontology Consortium and the Plant Ontology Consortium. You can find out more about her research on her website: https://www.rheelab.org.
Dr. Rhee will be giving a public lecture in 205 Armes on Thursday, Feb. 16th at 5pm (with a reception to follow), and a department lecture in 207 Buller on Friday, Feb. 17th at 11:30am. See the attached poster for more details about the talks.
All are welcome! We hope to see you there and take part in learning about cutting-edge science from a world-renowned scientist!
Sean Robertson
BSGSA Memorial Lecture Coordinator"

The University of Manitoba campuses are located on original lands of Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dene peoples, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation. I respect the Treaties that were made on these territories, acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and dedicate myself to move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.
