En cette période de dérèglement climatique, la quantité et la qualité de l’eau vont redéfinir la production nationale et le commerce international des denrées agricoles. Ce stress hydrique planétaire survient au moment où les Nations unies prévoient que la population mondiale atteindra plus de 9,1 milliards d’habitants en 2050 et que l’humanité devra produire 70 % de plus de nourriture.
Le Canada, 5e exportateur mondial de denrées agricoles, possède environ 20 % des réserves d’eau douce de la planète et il partage l’immense bassin versant des Grands Lacs et du fleuve Saint-Laurent avec les États-Unis.
L’ICPA se penche sur les enjeux liés à la gestion et à la géopolitique de l’eau, du rôle du Canada et des provinces canadiennes dans la gouvernance du liquide vital.
