Hi Health Sciences Grad Students,
I hope you all are doing well and keeping warm during this very cold winter. I am more than happy to announce that this year's Distinguished Lectureship will be given by two prestigious research scientists;
Dr. Vincent Munster, NIAID, NIH (March 10th, 10AM) Lecture title: The ecology of emerging coronaviruses from host reservoir to disease
Dr. Srinivas Murthy, UBC (March 11th, 10AM). Lecture title: COVID-19: Research in a pandemic
There will be a networking session after the lecture with each of the Distinguished Lecturers. I encourage all members of the UofM community particularly students to attend this networking session to hear about their success stories and challenges during their scientific career.
Please see attached posters for each of our Distinguished lecturer's biography and more details on their lecture. Don't forget to add these dates to your calendar.
Zoom links for each lecture are provided below.

On request of Dr. Malcolm Doupe, Director of The Manitoba Training Program (MTP) for Health Services Research:
Hello,
I hope this email finds you well! The MTP is a unique training program that supports students conducting health services research. During this one-year program, students have an opportunity to gain an understanding of the complex healthcare system and the role of evidence in policy making through focused academic coursework, seminar discussions, knowledge translation training, and work placements within the Manitoba healthcare delivery system. For additional information please visit: https://umanitoba.ca/medicine/department-community-health-sciences/manitoba…
We are welcoming thesis-based Master's and PhD students (including students who will be beginning their graduate program in September 2022) from health and non-health backgrounds - and a wide-range of other units and disciplines to apply into the MTP.
Accepted students receive a one-year financial stipend: $17,500 for MSc, $22,500 for PhD.
The deadline to apply is April 1st, 2022. Application form can be found here: https://umanitoba.ca/medicine/sites/medicine/files/2022-01/manitoba-trainin…
Please share this opportunity with your colleagues and students you know would benefit from the program.
Sincerely,
Mateja Carevic, on behalf of Dr. Malcolm Doupe

[cid:image002.jpg@01D6F948.C59A3EB0] The Manitoba Health Research Poster Competition (June 13) for graduate students is a great venue for students from across the health spectrum (Animal Science to Zoology... as broad as the CIHR mandate) to gain practice in presentation, receive feedback from experienced judges (awards of excellence are also available), and network with students from across the breadth of health research, both here and nationally. The opportunities for networking within the Canadian Student Health Research Forum (CSHRF) are broad, including the broad-spectrum symposium by Gairdner laureates (June 16) and a workshop on Career Development (June 14).
It is all free for participants, so I would encourage you consider this opportunity and to pass the message along to your colleagues. For more information, please see our website<https://umanitoba.ca/health-sciences/research/canadian-student-health-resea…> (https://umanitoba.ca/health-sciences/research/canadian-student-health-resea…)
