Doing Well During Stressful Times: Managing the New Normal of Life During the COVID-19 Pandemic Graduate studies is usually a stressful pursuit; graduate studies during the COVID-19 pandemic is even more stressful! Join us for a 1 hour webinar focused on helping graduate students manage and do well during this truly unique time. Counsellors from the Student Counselling Centre on campus (David Ness and Natalia Mozol) will provide practical strategies for managing social isolation, physical distancing, COVID-19 "overload", negative thinking and worry and more. Participants will be provided workshop materials following the session. This session will be offered via ZOOM and students are invited to participate as they would like (e.g. ask questions via chat function or live using audio and mic, activate video, simply listen, etc.). It is important during this time to take action to be as mentally healthy as possible and not simply wait for better times to come. Carolynne Boivin Scholarship for Family and Gender-Based Violence Research

Colleagues and board members of the RESOLVE (Research and Education for Solutions to Violence and Abuse) Research Network have acknowledged Carolynne Boivin's contribution to the development of their network through the establishment of a student award at The University of Manitoba. Carolynne Boivin worked tirelessly as President and founding member of the PrairieAction Foundation. The foundation was established in 1997 to raise $5 million to endow RESOLVE and to support other research and educational initiatives to reduce violence and abuse in the prairie provinces. RESOLVE Manitoba is grateful for this generous gift, as it will ensure that future generations of family and gender-based violence researchers at the University of Manitoba are supported. Dr. Tak Mak is a highly accomplished scientist, a recognizable figure in Immunology in Canada and he also gives an entertaining lecture! Application deadline is Friday, October 4, 2019 Catherine Eamer Cooke Memorial Fellowship The purpose of the fund is to provide research support to a medical student, resident, or graduate student who is performing a supervised research project, in the Max Rady College of Medicine, related to the ear. Each year, beginning in 2018-2019, the available annual interest from the fund will be used to award one fellowship to a student who: (1) is enrolled full-time in either: (i) the Undergraduate or Postgraduate Medical Education Program in the Max Rady College of Medicine, or (ii) the Faculty of Graduate Studies in a Master's or doctoral program delivered by the Max Rady College of Medicine; (2) has either: (i) maintained good standing in the Undergraduate or Postgraduate Medical Education Program, or (ii) achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) in the Faculty of Graduate Studies based on the previous 60 credit hours of study; (3) will be performing a supervised research project related to the ear; (4) has demonstrated outstanding interest or commitment to ear research. Candidates will be required to submit an application (maximum 250 words) addressed to the Department of Otolaryngology, Attention Dr. Paul Kerr, GB421-820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9 which includes the following information: the name of the award, the name of the applicant, the title of the research project, the objective and methods of the research, the research project budget; and a supporting letter from the faculty supervisor which includes a statement about how the student meets criterion (4) above.
