About Presenter Lety Elvir was born in Honduras. She grew up in lands for banana plantations. Neoliberal and capitalist practices have transformed the land into horrible fields of African palm. She has been an organizer and activist since the age of 15 to demand democracy and the right for education and sovereignty for her communities. Her decision to pursue a graduate degree in Primary Education stems from her interest in liberation educational practices. She is a PhD Candidate in Literature and Arts in Central America. She has worked as a professor in the Department of Letters at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) for more than 20 years. As the recipient of the Fullbright Fellow (2006), she founded and led the cultural initiative “Nomade poetry” in a bilingual newspaper to publish Latin American and African poetry.
