The Copyright Office has received numerous reports that course materials created by faculty have been posted or shared without the permission of the faculty member who owns that content. In response to this issue, the Copyright Office has updated the UM copyright guidelines<https://news.umanitoba.ca/updated-um-copyright-guidelines-add-clarity-for-f…> to help students, staff and faculty determine what may be legally copied or shared . As a student, it's important to understand that course materials created by an instructor or professor are copyrighted content. This includes PowerPoints, handouts, or notes made available for private study and research. These materials must not be shared or distributed in any format without authorization (this includes course note sharing or tutoring websites such as Course Hero, Chegg, etc.). Hi everyone, Exciting news! Our Go2Knowledge membership has been renewed through June 2026. Please take a moment to explore the platform and complete any trainings that interest you. To encourage participation, each completed Go2Knowledge webinar or UMAE meeting attendance will enter you into a draw for a UM Bookstore or Starbucks gift card. A draw will take place once per term, beginning in Fall 2025 with the contest beginning on the first day of classes and ending on the last day of classes. As you complete webinars, we encourage you to share your insights with the UMAE by leading a facilitated discussion on what you've learned-what stood out, what was useful, and how it applies to our work. This is an open invitation. If you're interested, please reply to this email so we can coordinate. As the summer rush begins, we will not hold another UMAE meeting until Fall. Reading to Write Program July and August 2025

Hello UM advisors, The Academic Learning Centre is offering two sessions of the Reading to Write Program in July and August 2025. This university-prep online course helps students improve their academic reading and writing skills, understand university assignment expectations, and learn to use UMLearn and other UM resources. Students learn strategies for reading complex academic texts, complete basic academic writing tasks and receive feedback on their writing from Academic Learning Centre writing tutors. Reading to Write is short, free, and online and it is best suited for incoming UM students or those who have completed fewer than 60 credits. Students can register for the first session (July 2 - 22) by June 15 and for the second session (July 22- August 12) by July 15 on the Academic Learning Centre <https://umanitoba.ca/student-supports/academic-supports/academic-learning#s…> page. 2025–2026 First Year Planning Guide Now Available

In collaboration with our faculty partners and the Admissions office, we have worked together to create a user-friendly resource for newly admitted students as they navigate course selection, timetabling, and registration. All incoming direct entry students will be directed to the online guide prior to registration through emails sent by our Recruitment team. They will also be invited to attend the Get Ready to Register<https://umanitoba.ca/current-students/first-year/planning#get-ready-to-regi…> series, where they’ll learn how to use the Guide to plan and register for their first year courses.
