Good Afternoon,
An update from ICM around changes to IRCC impacting students beginning at UM in January. The email below was sent to students completing ICM. If you have questions from students, please remind them to fill out the survey in the email they received so that ICM folks can consider all possible scenarios. Students should be referred to ICM for the most accurate and up to date info.
Have a great weekend!

Dear [recipient],
You are receiving this email because you could potentially finish your ICM program this term, based on your completed credit hours and current ICM course load and/or have applied to the UM to start studies in January 2025.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has officially published the exemption criteria on the IRCC websitehttps://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/change-schools.html#s2, clarifying who can continue to pursue studies at another Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in the Winter 2025 semester.
You can start studying at your new DLI (i.e.: the UM) if you:
* have been accepted to a DLI for the Winter 2025 semester, and * have applied for a study permit extension, and * have a study permit that remains valid and that doesn't have the DLI name printed on it, and * meet all your existing study permit conditions
Further, to progress to the UM, you must:
* achieve ICM's completion requirements of a minimum of 30 unique credit hours of courses with a minimum 2.00 GPA, and * meet UM eligibility entrance requirements to the UM faculty you've applied for
If you meet these criteria, you can attend the UM as a full-time student while your study permit extension is being processed. This means you do not need to continue ICM studies in January if you meet the criteria above.
We strongly encourage you to apply for your study permit extension for the UM as soon as possible so you can commence your studies on time. You will need to apply for your study permit extension before you start your studies at the UM in January.
Due to these changes, ICM will not be introducing new courses in the January 2025 term, as we expect students who are eligible to progress to the UM will do so, as opposed to taking an additional term with us as a visiting student.
To help us have the most current information possible as we explore each possible scenario, we ask that you complete a surveyhttps://machform.icmanitoba.ca/view.php?id=734456 at your earliest convenience (thank you to those who already have!).
Again, I want to sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding as we've worked to find you answers to the latest IRCC changes.
Warm regards,
Robert Daudet College Director and Principal
