----
In an effort to reduce the amount of spam, IST is pleased to announce that a bulk mail filter (DCC) will be activated on the University's central mail servers, cc.umanitoba.ca and ms.umanitoba.ca, as of Monday, March 24.
To read more about the bulk mail filter, you can start from the ACN home page at: http://umanitoba.ca/acn and under "IST/ACN Computing News" click on "Bulk Mail Blocking - AVOID LOSING MAIL"
You can check your bulk mail summaries on a web page or have them mailed to you each week. Both methods are available at: http://umanitoba.ca/acn/spam
Presentations are being scheduled over the next two weeks on the bulk mail filtering and white list. They are currently scheduled for:
Bannatyne campus: Monday, March 17. 12:05-1:00 pm. Theatre C. Basic Med Sciences Monday, March 17. 1:30-2:30 pm. Theatre C. Basic Med Sciences
Fort Garry campus: Tuesday. March 18. 1:00-2:00 pm. IST Theatre-160 Dafoe Bldg (off Library lobby) Wednesday, March 19 1:15-2:15 pm. IST Theatre-160 Dafoe Bldg. (off Library lobby) Thursday, March 20 2:00-3:00 pm. 340 University Centre. Microcomputer Centre. Tuesday, March 25 1:30-2:30 pm. 340 University Centre. Microcomputer Centre
More presentations will be scheduled as needed.
In summary it is important to: - start now checking your bulk mail summary to catch good mail and white list it. - develop the habit of checking the bulk mail summary on an ongoing basis into the future. Since it is only kept for seven days, choosing the mailout subscription method may be preferable at the start.
We hope this service will be of assistance in reducing spam though it will not catch all of it.
Your feedback on how this bulk filtering approach works for you in the weeks ahead will be very important in shaping our maintainence and support of it.
