[I had a chance to meet with Inge Janssen staff from this program and see a talk from Anna - Amsterdam's bicycle mayor - and was inspired by the potential of this idea in Canadian cities too. They are looking/willing to grow the program and have a free get together in Amsterdam coinciding with VeloCity in Nijmegen. Its an excellent opportunity to connect internationally.
Maybe Winnipeg, Brandon, Portage?
There area a few different formats possible, but basically anywhere can have a bike mayor and this program will help support/network to get it started. (Note that in Europe, a "Mayor" is more like a councillor but this is not an actual politician and does not preclude places with bike friendly ones (look at Amsterdam...). This is something set up to recognize and give voice to a keen and energetic person who feels passionately, works outside the official structure and is capable of explaining cycling to the public and working positively. They are a volunteer and work alongside the local Bicycle Advocacy group and politicians. Sydney has one. Amsterdam has one. Have a look!
PS. No, I am not in the running... but I know how useful it can be to have a framework for communication. I *can* think of a dozen people in Winnipeg who would be great and whom I would be happy to support/guide through the process. - Anders]

CycleSpace is organising the first ever Bicycle Mayor and Leader Summit. An inspiring day on how cycling mayors, influencers and leaders can change cities and mobility worldwide. The program of Saturday the 10th of June will we open for everyone who is interested in the program. Our goal is that everyone will leave our pavilion knowing how a Bicycle Mayor can change cycling in their city. But this day will be much more than just that! There will be interactive talks, creative sessions, a cycling tour and ideation workshops to stimulate ideas of bold radical visions to challenge the future of bicycle solutions. The day will end with drinks, dinner and a little bit of dancing!
