It is finally here, the first ITE Manitoba monthly lunch presentation will be on Thursday, December 13th! As usual, it will take place at 12 noon at The Round Table at 800 Pembina Highway. Our presenter this month is *Dr. Jeannette Montufar, P. Eng.*, of the University of Manitoba. Dr. Montufar’s presentation is on *The New Pedestrian Control Guide*.****

Dr. Montufar is a professional engineer registered in Manitoba and Alberta, and Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba. She is also Principal of Montufar Group, a transportation consulting firm specializing in road safety and freight transportation. Dr. Montufar has done extensive work in the U.S. and Canada on projects dealing with road safety, freight transportation, the application of advanced technologies to commercial vehicle operations, truck size and weight policy, goods movement in urban areas, traffic information systems, and the automation of data collection systems. She has worked for the Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio; the Texas Transportation Institute in College Station, Texas; and the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute in Ann Arbor, Michigan.****

Call for Project Manager - CLASP / CITE Project Opportunity closes: December 19, 2012.
The Technical Liaison Committee (TLC) is issuing a call to fill an immediate need for a Project Manager to lead a new initiative being undertaken in partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Under the umbrella of the Coalitions Linking Action & Science for Prevention (CLASP), the goal is to better understand the issues and challenges related to implementing active transportation. In this regard the project objectives and scope over the next 1.5 years include the following:
OBJECTIVES Retrofitting guidelines/best practices/compromise/decision making Monitoring/data collection Case Studies Promotion CITE Conference Engineers/Planners/Health Professionals How does existing data link to health data? (i.e. accident location and health data) Community engagement Geometric Design/Retrofit case studies Risk assessment - quantifying Identifying communities for case studies How does this complement other initiatives? (i.e. Complete Streets)
SCOPE
Phase 1: Identify working group Call for Interest to road authorities to bring forward case studies Conference call with candidate communities and road authorities, review case studies Webinar 1 - present case studies and invite all CITE members to provide feedback and identify challenges/missing data Identify scope of work/ tasks (i.e. connection to health benefits) Retain grad student to undertake data collection/research etc. Webinar 2 and CITE Conference Session - summary presentation
Phase 2: Webinar 3- define risk assessment process Webinar 4- present final "Active Transportation by Design"

CLASP PM Job description:
Duties: Project manage the project to its completion in Sept 2014.
Objectives: Develop and roll-out a webinar series that addresses specific challenges providing active transportation facilities, while disseminating cutting-edge practices, and meeting the needs and interests of CITE members. Facilitate dialogue among the health, planning and engineering sectors, and increase content and process expertise for cross-sector collaboration around health and built environment issues. Share promising practices, lessons learned and recommendations with colleagues Canada-wide, and help to bolster Canada's healthy built environment movement and evidence-informed policy and practice change across provinces.
Tasks:
* Prepare a workplan including resources (voluntary and monetary) * Assemble a team of support volunteers to assist with the tasks * Ensure budgets and deadlines are met * Attend meetings as required * Prepare progress reports for TLC and Heart and Stroke * Facilitate meetings as required
Deliverables:
* A session of speakers for the April 2013 CITE conference in Calgary * A webinar series to foster design innovation that aligns with health objectives and excellence in engineering practice, and help influence industry guidelines and policies. * A document providing a summary of findings and challenges with connecting health data to benefits of providing built active transportation environments
Members of the CITE Executive and Technical Liaison Committee will help the new project manager become familiar with the project and provide support as required.
Budget:
* The budget allocation for this project is approximately $50,000
