Released: 9:16 a.m.
Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is pleased to offer its first public workshop, Land Use Planning - The Big Picture on November 21.
"The City is committed to building a more open and transparent Winnipeg," said Chief Planner Braden Smith. "This new planning workshop will help residents better understand the planning process, enable participation and discussion, and ultimately help us shape the content of future public education offerings related to urban planning."
The Land Use Planning - The Big Picture workshop is the first in a series of courses the City plans to offer under the educational umbrella of Planning Ed, the City's planning education initiative.
The workshop is designed to increase understanding of local planning and development processes among interested members of the public. Participants will learn about the planning and development framework and the roles of different urban planning tools and how they are applied in our neighbourhoods.
The class will outline the differences between OurWinnipeg and the Complete Communities Direction Strategy, secondary plans, and zoning by-laws. As well, participants will explore the range of development applications that are commonly associated with new development and re-development.
Refreshments will be provided and seating is limited.
