Through a bequest left to the University of Manitoba in 2015 a new graduate student award has been approved by Senate – the Pamela Hardisty Graduate Fellowship. The award is for entering doctoral students studying in any doctoral program offered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies who does not hold funding equal to, or greater than, the value of a doctoral level UMGF (ie: $18,000 for 2018-2019.)
The first competition for this award will be for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Each faculty/school/college is invited to nominate one (1) student. For the purpose of this entrance award, the academic year will be defined as beginning January 1, 2018 and ending December 31, 2018. Doctoral students admitted in January 2018, May 2018 or September 2018 are eligible for this award.
To be eligible for this award students must:
* be enrolled full-time in the first year of any doctoral program in the Faculty of Graduate Studies – ie: began their PhD studies in Winter 2018, May 2018, or Fall 2018 term per above; * have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.75 based on the most recent 60 credit hours (or equivalent) of study; * have demonstrated research ability or potential; and * have demonstrated strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
Each nomination package must include:
* a letter of support from the Dean of the Faculty/School/College for the nomination; * a written statement describing the nominee's proposed research (maximum 1000 words); * a copy of the nominee’s curriculum vitae; * two academic letters of reference.
For 2018-2019, the value of the Pamela Hardisty Graduate Fellowship is $18,150.00. The award is renewable for up to three years provided the student continues to meet the eligibility requirements.
