The International Graduate Student Scholarship (IGSS) was created with the intent of assisting International Students who are paying the international student differential tuition fee beyond their first year of study in the Faculty of Graduate Studies. We are currently accepting applications for the IGSS for the 2017-2018 academic year - link to the application and our FAQ page can be found by clicking herehttp://umanitoba.ca/faculties/graduate_studies/funding/igssfaq.html.
Please note that the IGSS has specific requirements beyond being an international student - all the IGSS requirements must be met in order to be recommended for the scholarship for the 2017-2018 academic year, and this includes a GPA requirement (full requirements for the IGSS can be found by clicking herehttp://umanitoba.ca/faculties/graduate_studies/funding/104.html).
If students are unsure if they are eligible to submit an application - we would encourage them to apply anyways. The application is simple and takes less than 15 minutes to complete. We will happily assess their eligibility once we receive their application and respond to them with a decision on their application.
Particularly, we would encourage Master's students who THINK they might transfer to, or start a new, PhD program here at the University of Manitoba in the Summer 2017, Fall 2017 or Winter 2018 terms to apply for this competition. There is a spot on the application to indicate when they think they might begin a PhD program. If they think there is a chance at all they might begin a PhD program in Summer 2017, Fall 2017 or Winter 2018 terms then they should ensure they apply for the IGSS and indicate their possible start date in the appropriate spot on the application form. (NOTE: starting a PhD program beyond Winter 2018 will be considered on future IGSS applications.
We were hoping that you could help spread the word to international students in your area that they need to ensure they apply by the April 11th, 2017 deadline. Starting this year we will no longer to be able to accept late applications for the IGSS - so students who do not apply by April 11th, 2017 will not be permitted to submit a late applications and will therefore not be assessed for the IGSS starting in the 2017-2018 academic year.
