Hello Folks,
I hope this message finds you well!
The new committee met for the re-adjudication of the Emerging Leisure Scholar Award. The committee recommended that Dr. Corliss Bean (Brock University) be named as the 2024 recipient.
We need Board approval before I can advise Dr. Bean, notify all nominators and nominees (successful and unsuccessful) for the award, and then make official announcements to the CALS listserve/ website for all the 2024 award winners.
Could I have 2 folks from the new adjudication committee move and second the motion – and then we can vote as a collective Board. If possible, I would love to have this announced sooner rather than later! I anticipate folks will be on vacation; thus, the vote will close Wednesday, August 7th at 12pm to straddle this week and next week – hoping to get quorum for an evote! Motion: To approve the recommendation of Dr. Corliss Bean as the 2024 Emerging Leisure Scholar Award winner. Moved by: Seconded by:
Thanks for your votes everyone! And special thanks to the folks who gave their time for the (re)adjudication. Warm wishes, Dawn

On behalf of the committee, I’m pleased to share that Dr. Corliss Bean has been identified as the successful recipient of the Emerging Leisure Scholar Award.
The committee members for the re-adjudication felt that the award rubric requires refinement. For example, under service, do we mean service to leisure studies? Service in general? I think the board should strike a sub-committee to examine and refine the rubric.
I’d like to thank all the participants in the re-adjudication for their hard work and collegiality. Audrey
