Next Tuesday, join the Social Justice Hub for our monthly drop-in! If you're looking for a friendly place to meet community on campus who care about the same issues you do, bring your lunch and come ready to discuss the issues of the day. Last month, students, staff, and faculty discussed mutual aid organizing on campus; the role of faith in social justice work; and how fundraising can help and hinder student organizing. To attend, come to the CEL office, 203-55 Chancellor's Circle, from 12-1:30pm on Tues, Oct 28th. Where: CEL office From 12 – 1:30pm on the last* Tuesday of the month, bring your lunch and questions, and join us for lightly facilitated conversations. These drop-in events bring together UM students, staff, and faculty to process the political moment, learn about social justice issues, workshop ideas for projects or initiatives, and meet people to collaborate with. Fall Schedule: Sept 23* Oct 28 Nov 25 Dec 16* *Earlier dates to accommodate National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Winter Term Break. Location and Accessibility: Masks will be provided and air purifiers will be running. One room will be designated as mask-on, and all participants are asked to wear a well-fitting respirator when not eating. Hi Everyone! I wanted to share a quick update on some of the ongoing Programs and Workshops CEL, and some other events around Campus! Poverty Awareness and Community Action (PACA) Porgram PACA Support Circle: The Deadline has been extended to October 7, 225 for this cohort-based program focusing on community engagement and social advocacy. More Details<https://umanitoba.ca/community-engaged-learning/poverty-awareness> Application<https://forms.office.com/r/2fyKMYkfU5> Land and Water L&W offers cohort based as well as drop-in oppoerunities for hands-on, land-based learning. Cohort intake deadline has been extended to October 6th, and drop in participants can sign up for individual events throughout the Fall and Winter. Orientation to the program is on October 7th. Open to everyone, and the focus this month is Wildlife. Registration<https://forms.office.com/r/9dhWHXs4kP> Social Justice Hub Training Workshop Series: The Social Justice Hub is excited to present "Foundations for Collective Action": a monthly series of training workshops to make your community work more effective, meaningful, and far reaching. Based in the Midwest Academy school of community organizing, these seven sessions will move learners through foundational knowledge, practical skills, and tools for tackling common obstacles to building powerful and sustainable community organizations.
