Poverty Awareness & Community Action is hiring a part-time Support Circle Coordinator to coordinate the advocacy training program, which takes place on Wednesday evenings. The Support Circle is a student program that develops individual advocacy skills and provides advocacy and support to community with lived experiences of poverty.

To be eligible for the work-study program, students must have proof of a government student aid package of at least $2,000 or Indigenous band sponsorship, Metis nation postsecondary funding, or disability funding, as well as be registered as a full-time student for Fall/Winter, have a 2.0 GPA, and be living in Manitoba.

Joining the PACA: Support Circle is an opportunity to learn how to work in good ways with low-income communities. Support Circle volunteers receive poverty awareness education and training in both individual and social advocacy, so that they can appropriately research resources, provide advocacy support, engage in social advocacy, and work with people who face poverty and other intersecting oppressions.

Program meetings take place on Wednesdays evenings and will begin with a three-hour in-person orientation on Fort Garry campus on Wednesday, October 2. This program is free and open to UM students and members of the wider community who want to learn how to work in good ways with low-income communities.
