To all dental hygiene and dental students,

We are now in full swing with clinical operations. It has been a busy week getting back to seeing patients and remembering how to use axiUm. A few points to pass along for next week in order to improve and streamline your clinical experience.

1. Students must inquire about government insurance coverage, prior to booking the patient. They should inquire with their designated PCC or if they are not available, inquire with another PCC or Katalina Munoz - Insurance Coordinator. Students must know what coverage a patient has BEFORE booking the patient.

2. When contacting patients, leave 1 week between each contact attempt to allow the patient to return your call and update the contact notes with all communication. You can request to have a patient dispositioned from your patient list only after you have attempted to contact your patient over a 3 week period (1x/week) and have this properly documented in patient contact notes.

3. Please try to refrain from coming to the window to make inquiries with your designated PCC. An email or axiUm message is preferred. If necessary, send as high importance. During certain times of the day the PCCs must focus on assigned tasks and patients. An email will be most efficient.

4. Radiology Request Forms must include the student's name that is requesting the radiographs.

5. OHAF/ HC FUND - Apply for patients who do not have Private Insurance or are 40% or 60% covered with CDCP Insurance.

6. Ensure at the end of each day you are following IPAC protocols in cleaning and disinfecting your operatory including cleaning the trap on the chair you are using.
