Hello Dent 1, On Friday, September 19th, 3-5 pm, you have a scheduled in-person interprofessional education (IPE) activity embedded in DENT 1550 Introduction to Dentistry. I provided an orientation to the IPE activities a couple of weeks ago in DENT 1550. Dr. Schönwetter uploaded the Ppt of that orientation in your UML course. The Sept 19th, IPE session takes place on the Bannatyne campus. During this mandatory IPE session, we will begin exploring the interprofessional collaboration (IPC) competencies of relationship-focused care/services, team functioning, and communication. You have been placed in an interprofessional collaborative (IPC) learning team representing at least three health professionals who will be from one of the seven participating programs: midwifery, pharmacy, physiotherapy, dental hygiene, physician assistant, and respiratory therapy, and dentistry. Pre-readings/preparation: In advance of Sept 19th, you need to complete the UML online module: Introduction to Collaborative Team-based Care, which introduces the six competencies all health professions share about collaborative team-based care. The module is a mandatory and pre-reading for the IPE sessions embedded in the Dentistry program. The module will take you approximately 2 hours to complete. There are six quizzes (you access the quizzes only after completion of the section) and six optional reflections not included in the hours. Here is the link to the module: https://universityofmanitoba.desire2learn.com/d2l/home/642177. You will need your UM ID and password. Completion of the module six quizzes and your participation in the IPE activities embedded in the DENT 1550 Introduction to Dentistry contribute to your progression in DENT 1550 Introduction to Dentistry. Watch for the announcement informing you of your IPE learning team number, assigned room, and the IPE facilitators' names. Please arrive a few minutes before the session so you can locate your team in the room. The session will start promptly at 3 pm. If you are unsure where the room/building is, click https://maps.umanitoba.ca/ for a map of the Bannatyne campus. Please email Laura MacDonald, the Office of Interprofessional Collaboration College Lead for the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry and School of Dental Hygiene Lead, (Laura.MacDonald@umanitoba.camailto:Laura.MacDonald@umanitoba.ca) or oipc@umanitoba.camailto:oipc@umanitoba.ca if you have any questions or concerns. Dr. Schönwetter, please do post this email in the DENT 1550 UML announcement page for ease of retrieval. On behalf of the OIPC, we look forward to seeing you in person on Friday, Sept 19th, 3-5 PM!
