Good morning all,
Welcome back to your second year of studies in the Bachelor of Education program! You have taken the next important step towards becoming a certified Manitoba teacher. We look forward to seeing you back in the Faculty!
To avoid redundancy, we decided not to host an Orientation for second-year students this year. If you did not receive a September 1st Orientation invitation, please assume that we are not expecting you to attend.
We will be emailing you shortly about our exciting, new Neuroaffirming professional education programming for all B.Ed. students, as well as the opportunity to participate in a Neuroaffirming Cohort with additional mentoring and the possibility of a $1,000 dollar scholarship for the first, eligible 75 Year 1 and Year 2 students who apply by September 2nd (more details to follow this week).
Also, this year we will be providing free copies (while copies last) of this year’s “Faculty Reads—Indigenous Authors’ Series” book Theory of Water: Nishnaabe Maps to the Times Ahead. Starting on September 1st copies of this book will be available for pickup in room 203 Education (Student Services Office) for those students wishing to form a book club with program colleagues/friends. The author, Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, will be with us on Program Day, November 2nd.
As we are always seeking to enhance our students’ experience, we have made the following communication plans for the year ahead:
*
Newsletters. This will be our primary form of communication to provide you with important faculty news and information, actions you need to take as students in the program, and opportunities for ongoing professional learning and relevant employment. Please read these newsletters when they are published, as there are designed to support your learning in a timely way in the faculty.
*
UM Learn "Student Resources". We have now compiled a list of resources in a UM Learn module, that will save you from searching our website or emailing different people. This resource will be constantly monitored and updated, so please feel free to "check it out” on an ongoing basis. More information will be forthcoming. Please reach out to Joel via adu.education(a)umanitoba.ca ASAP if you are not included in this module.
We want to thank you again for your collaborative spirit in the first year of the B.Ed. program. Please know that our doors are always open for questions, concerns, and conversations.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Joel via adu.education(a)umanitoba.ca, or alternatively via 204-474-9015.
We hope you have a wonderful beginning to the school year,
Sincerely yours,
Wayne
