Dear List.
It is with great pleasure that we announce the next experimental release of EpiData Manager and EpiData EntryClient.
The main new aspects are:
1. Controlled user login (Extended Access): With Extended Access users can have different roles in a project, some may change the structure of data and others only enter data or reset passwords for other users. This extends the security of the project from encryption of data to encryption of the whole project. For entry of data rights to edit and read data is defined at the dataform level.
A full explanation of how you work with user controlled login is available from the testing download page: http://www.epidata.dk/testing.php. Anexample project is included with the installation package, this includes an extension of the "Clinical Example Project" with defined groups. A readme.txt contains user name and password.
2. Customised Statusbar: In addition to a modernised design the content of the Statusbar can now be adapted with various elements. The Dataform Information panel can display a text or contents of the currently active dataform. For those familiar with the old EpiData Entry 3.1 this is much like the "type statusbar" command of the .chk file.
Please notice that as usual: DO NOT use the experimental version for routine work and do not use on your real projects. Work on copies of data. Changes to data structure and definitions will change until the features are included in public release versions.
Please test the following: 1. Addition of users to the example project to defined groups. 2. Addition of groups and rights for a project you start from scratch. 3. The new statusbar
Next phase of development will focus on these aspects: a. recording of what the user did after logging into a project (transaction log) b. reporting of defined groups and users in a given project.
